The University of La Salette Debate Team emerged as the Champion in the 1st AA+ Intercollegiate Debate Tournament organized by the Office of the City Vice-Mayor, Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP) and Active Advocate for Youth Development held at the University of La Salette New Gymnasium last February 14, 2017.Among the 5 schools who joined the debate tournament, ULS and NC made it to the Grand Finals.
The ULS Debate Team composed of Glenford Fernando as the Team Captain, Precious Dianne Salumbre, Marc Angelo Martinez, Everard Domingo and Dencel Den Cundangan snagged the championship title in the grand finals in favor of the motion “Resolved, that Anti-Dynasty Bill should be passed into law“.
“Nagresearch kami on all the aspect of the proposition, both positive and negative impacts of political dynasty. The reason kung bakit kami nanalo ay siguro nakita ng mga judges na mas prepared kami at mas may alam kami sa topic na pinagdedebatehan.” said Fernando when asked about their preparation for the Grand Finals.
Salumbre was also awarded as the Best Debater and Best Speaker and when asked about how she feels about it, she answered, “Fulfilling. Lahat ng pagod namin ng teammates ko ay worth it.”
The debate aims to enable college students from different universities and colleges in Santiago City to express their views effectively and to encourage them to take part in a truly scholar examination of the issues, thereby molding them to become well-read and well-informed about current issues of our country.
